Tacking into the wind

I hate you too, Weather.
My ride home from work today had the following thematic elements:
- Torrential rain.
- Being totally soaked within the first 30 seconds.
- Insane traffic.
- 20mph+ cross-winds.
- Thunder.
- Lightning.
- The sound of limbs breaking in the trees lining the street.
- An inch of water on the road.
- Rain coming in almost parallel to the ground.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go do laundry, because my clothes aren’t wet enough.

Sounds like bicycling here in Hue, Vietnam. The only differences are the rain is wamer and one has to duck moto[cycles] and women on bicycles who pull out without looking in any direction.
When the monsoon hits, the streets flood so much that one is happy to be riding a mountain bike because the low gear helps one “plow” through the 1-2.5 feet of water on the roads. I’ve passed boats.
For an amazing bicycle experience, consider bicycling in Vietnam and/or SE Asia. I’ve found it much more interesting than bicycling in the Bay area or Portland, OR. I welcome all questions concerning above comments or take a gander at http://vietnamzen.com
